What’s in the Box? April Highlight Reel

Need a way to take better care of your lips, fuel yourself on the trail, keep your cold beverages cold in a non-traditional vessel, or start a fire in an emergency? Then this month’s Cairn has exactly what you’re looking for.

Hydro Flask True Pint

If you’re a fan of Hydro Flask’s insulated liquid-carrying devices and you’re a fan of keeping your cold drinks cold, you’re going to love the True Pint. The company is best known for better water bottles created under the premise that reusable bottles should offer safe drinking, attractive design, and a way for users to keep drinks at appropriate temperatures for long periods of time. Hydro Flask expanded their offerings to include beer growlers, coffee flasks, even food flasks.

The True Pint combines stainless steel vacuum insulation Hydro Flask is known for with a thoughtful design to make drinking your favorite brew or cold beverage more enjoyable. It looks like a traditional pint glass and the lip of the True Pint is designed to make it feel like you’re drinking from a glass pint. It’s also engineered for easy stacking and comes in a variety of colors. You can also feel good knowing that for every purchase you make, Hydro Flask’s 5% Back program gives you a chance to support a charity of your choice.

Lasting Smiles Organic Lip Balm

What if every time you used lip balm to take care of your lips, you could do it knowing the lip balm you chose helped with lip care for children in need? Thanks to Lasting Smiles, you can. Zoe Mesnick-Greene, Founder and CEO of Lasting smiles, started selling specially formulated lip balms door-to-door to help fund cleft repair surgery for children. Now, the door-to-door sales aren’t a necessity anymore but the company’s mission remains the same. For every 1,000 lip balms sold, according to Lasting Smiles website, one child receives the gift of cleft lip or cleft palate surgery.

The balm itself is free of gluten, parabens, petrolatum, alcohol, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, and other less than ideal additives. They’re all 100% vegetarian with no artificial colors. The Simply Moisture version goes on smooth, smells fantastic, and does the job with respect to keeping your lips moisturized. It’s also organic and meets fair trade standards. Now that’s a lip balm you can feel good about.

Kate’s Real Food Bars

Self-proclaimed ski bum, Kate Schade, founded Kate’s Real Food after “years of poking and prodding from her sometimes-hostile comrades.” She engineered her own energy bars for on-the-go fun, Tram Bars, but it took time for her to “bite the entrepreneurial bullet,” according to the company’s website. Now, Kate’s Real Food provides wholesome energy bars made with organic and GMO-free ingredients designed to help you keep playing all day.

All energy bars are not created equally, but after one bite of the peanut butter dark chocolate Stash Bar, you’ll be hooked. It tastes like a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, has a little bit of crunch, and packs enough energy to get you through hours of your favorite outdoor activity. Other options include the Grizzly Bar, Handle Bar, Tiki Bar, and the original Tram Bar.

Ultimate Survival Technologies SparkForce

A reliable fire-starting device of some sort should always be on your list of must-carry items when you’re out in the wilderness. Being able to start a fire in case of an emergency is crucial. Though waterproof matches, lighters, and other fire starting options are great, it’s important to have something you can count on in all conditions.

SparkForce is a small flint-based fire starter designed to generate sparks in wet or windy conditions using a variety of types of tinder, like the shredded aspen filler in your Cairn box! The striker and flint pieces are both built into separate detachable pieces to prevent unintentional sparks, but the pieces also fit together to prevent damage and to make carrying easy. If you find you’re having trouble getting sparks, make sure the black coating is scraped off of the round rod piece of the SparkForce. Also, as with flint and steel fire starters, it can take a few tries to get a good spark. Don’t give up! Take a look at this demo video for more information.

Jodi, I’m with you on the lid idea! I’d love it if the True Pint had a lid. Seems everyone thinks that product stole the show for sure.

Charles, you can look for pricing options here: http://www.getcairn.com/collections/subscribe

I’m already a hydroflask fan so I love the pint glass. Haven’t used the striker yet, but the lip balm was good, and the energy bar was delicious. As a nurse you always need to have snacks on hand, and that bar was a great one to get me through a few hours.

This was my first Cairn box, and I was pleased beyond expectation. The hydroflask pint glass stole the show in my opinion. I find myself wondering how I will drink out of other cups moving forward! Thanks. Looking forward to the next box…
