The Kitted experience is not merely curated, it’s truly personalized to your activities, budget, and build. Cairn marries data with the expertise of our Gear Gurus to handpick items for you.

Kitted makes selecting outdoor gear and apparel not just convenient, but effortless. Like other online retailers, Kitted saves you a trip to the store by shipping items directly to you. Our Gear Gurus also save you the time and trouble of researching and selecting items that will work best for you.

With Kitted, the great outdoors is your dressing room. We encourage you to try everything on and test the gear to make sure you’re a fan of it (and the activity) before making a purchase.

Returns are easy. Simply place the items you can live without into the prepaid mailing envelope and drop it into any USPS mailbox. There are no additional shipping charges!

Kitted Members pay a curation fee of $25 each Kit Cycle, which is then applied to any purchase from the Kit that exceeds $100. Members can earn 10% off their entire purchase by selecting and purchasing all five items in a Kit. The discount will not apply for any purchase less than 5 items.

During the two-week testing period after receiving a Kit, simply log into your Kit Account to let us know which items you’ll be returning. These items then can be returned with a prepaid shipping label at no additional cost. The returns must be shipped within two weeks of receiving the Kit and will not be accepted after this two week window.

Because our members’ activities are varied, our Kits cater to a wide range of products that align with an outdoor lifestyle. We work to curate not only the essentials, but additional items that are relevant for your specific activity. The initial beta program will be focused on four activities and we will continue to add more activities throughout the year.

In this initial beta program, you’ll be able to select one activity. Keep in mind that there will be some product overlap between activities, so you’ll see items that will easily transition across many of your adventures. Additionally, some core activities like hiking, backpacking, or camping will likely be available for multiple Kit cycles; so if you select hiking for this Kit, you can opt for car camping next!

Each shipment is completely customized to fit your individual preferences and needs. We carry a wide range of inventory that allows us to choose pieces that’ll be perfect for your active outdoor style. However, we currently offer adult sizing only (no kids or junior sizing available).

We currently carry women’s sizes XS - XL, and men’s sizes S - XXL. We’re always working to increase our range of sizes so that we can deliver great selections to more members.

We currently ship to all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. territories. International shipping is not available with Kitted at this time.


FAQ Gear Up Give Back ™ Program


Getting new items from Kitted could mean that older pieces get retired to a bin in the garage or, worse yet, a landfill. Don’t do it! Cairn’s Gear Up, Give Back program launched in 2018 in partnership with The Gear Fix, a used gear repair and sale shop. Simply send in your pre-loved items to the Gear Up, Give Back program where it will be repaired and sold, with net proceeds benefiting The Conservation Alliance.
Simply place your pre-loved items in your Kitted box (along with any Kitted products, if any, that you’d like to return) and send it back with the enclosed pre-printed shipping label. Need more room or don’t have Kitted packaging? Order a Gear Up, Give Back kit here.
Send in gear or apparel from high quality outdoor brands. It’s ok if the items are in need of minor repair. You can see a list of examples of items and more details here.

FAQ Billing


For each Kit Cycle, a $25 curation fee will be charged before your Gear Guru begins curating for you. That curation fee will be credited toward any purchase from the Kit that exceeds $100. After your Kit arrives, you'll log into your Kit account to purchase the items you’d like to keep and let us know if there are any items you’ll be sending back.
If you don’t select anything from your Kit Shop to be shipped to you this Cycle, your $25 curation fee will roll over to your next Kit Cycle. If you select items to be shipped to you, but opt to return them all, your $25 curation fee will not be rolled over. If you decide not to keep anything this time around, make sure to leave feedback for each item when you process your return so we can improve our picks for you in future Kits.

FAQ Scheduling


As Kitted is currently a beta program, the next automatic Kit Cycle is tentatively planned for September 2019. We will continue to share and confirm details with you as your next Kit Cycle approaches.
This auto-renew program can be canceled anytime, and will end your membership at the end of your current Kit Cycle (prior to your next renewal date). Simply email us at kitted@getcairn.com.

FAQ Returns


During the two-week testing period after receiving a Kit, simply log into your Kit Account to let us know which items you’ll be returning. The returns must be shipped within two weeks of receiving the Kit and will not be accepted after this two week window. You’ll find a prepaid return shipping label in the package with your Kit. Drop your returns in your mailbox, a USPS drop box or the post office.
Cairn will present a custom Kit Shop featuring a selection of apparel and gear suited for the individual member to unlock online in the beginning of the month. Members have five days to review and select up to five products they want in their Kit, and a customized collection is then shipped to the member for a 14-day testing period. We’ll send email reminders throughout the period to prompt next steps. If you don’t check out within the 14-day testing window, we’ll assume you loved everything and your saved payment method will be charged for all of the items in your Kit.
We curate limited quantities and variations based on the information each Kitted member provides us in their profile. Each member's Kit Shop includes products only in the sizes provided in their member profile. We will do our best to accommodate size exchanges, but can't guarantee that exchange options will be available. Size exchange requests or questions can be handled individually, simply email us at kitted@getcairn.com.
First, log into your Kitted account, let us know which items you plan to keep, and provide feedback on those you'll be returning. There's no need to wash any of the items you tried, but please try to return them with all packaging and tags (even if they've been removed). If you were provided a poly-mailer in your Kit and your return items fit in it, please use that, along with the return shipping label to ship them. If you weren't provided a poly-mailer or your items don't fit, simply return them in the Kit packaging using the provided return shipping label. There are no additional fees for return shipments.
If you'd like to make updates to your Kitted account, including billing and shipping information as well as activity and demographic updates, you can now make all of those updates in your Kitted account!

About Kitted by Cairn (Beta Program)


Kitted is a beta program launched in March 2019 to a small group of people for the spring season. What’s beta? It’s a fully-formed offering, but scaling the program to a larger audience requires a healthy dose of time and learning. This is just the beginning for Kitted, so we look forward to hearing feedback from our community.
